Founding Members are limited in number. They are acting in good faith to help launch this self-sustaining 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Founding Members will have special benefits as the organization offers new services.
Web Account
If you have not done so, please use your name and email address to create a free web account to allow changing of your account settings, make comments to blog entries, and create your own blog entries.
Web Account Settings
- Login and click on “my account” in the right hand column under your name. The next page will show your name at the top.
- Click on the “my notify settings” and select your settings
- Click on the “edit” tab and scroll down to the “block configuration”. Select the blocks you would like to see in the right hand column when you view the site.
- Allow others to contact you individually by email in response to your blog entries by selecting the "Personal contact mail form". Your email address is not made public and is only available to other web accounts.
Mailing Lists
Unfortunately, the email lists are administered outside of the website by the Mailman software and are not yet fully integrated with web accounts. Since we never send unsolicitied email you must subscribe to the Announce newsletter and member's private discussion email lists to begin receiving them.
Announce Newsletter
The Announce list is a monthly newsletter highlighting a very small portion of the information available on the website.
Member's Private Email List
Members may subscribe to the members@softwaremanagers.org, the member's private email list. Only members receive these emails. It is used for discussion among members, asking questions and can be used for anything you do not feel comfortable blogging about. Individual email addresses are not made public.
Blogs
Members can publish their own blog. The URL to provide to others includes http://softwaremanagers.org/blog/ plus your user number. The xml
icon at the bottom left of the page is the feed for your blog. You can get to your own blog by clicking on my blog. To publish your first blog entry:
- Click on “create content” to the right, below your name
- Click on “blog entry” (under “create content”)
- Enter the title of your blog entry
- Select a “category” from the drop-down window
- Enter the content of your blog entry

All blog entries from all members appear at http://softwaremanagers.org/blog and have a feed of http://softwaremanagers.org/blog/feed usable in RSS readers or aggregator software.
Meetups
As a member, you can organize Meetups in your area. Meetups are open to the public like user groups. They are an opportunity to meet people interested in software and hardware management face to face, to get to know each other, share information, to meet new people, and have some fun.
